Quick answer

One published guide puts US Salesforce developers at about $67 to $171 an hour, from junior to senior. For India it gives about $14 to $72 an hour, but those figures are derived from the US bands rather than measured, so the India ranges are wide and should be read with care. The rate you pay also depends on whether you hire a freelancer, an agency or a staff-augmentation team.

US vs India: published hourly rates

Hourly rates by seniority, side by side. These are third-party published figures, not Techila rates.

Salesforce developer hourly rates (USD)
SeniorityUSIndia (derived)
Junior$67 to $104$14 to $24
Mid-level$85 to $135$20 to $52
Senior$110 to $171$30 to $72

Source: Second Talent: cost to hire a Salesforce developer (Hiring platform, dated ). India: Derived by the source from its US bands using a compensation ratio, not measured. The source says a single India rate means very little on its own.

Why the India ranges are so wide

  • They are derived, not measured. The source scales its US bands by a compensation ratio, so the India figures inherit the width of the US bands and add the uncertainty of the ratio.
  • City. Rates differ between major technology hubs and smaller cities.
  • Certification and experience. Developers with Platform Developer or architect-level certifications, or deep experience in one cloud, charge more.
  • Employer model. A developer employed by a partner, a staffing firm or working freelance is priced differently, because each covers different overheads.

Freelancer, agency and staff-augmentation rates are different things

An hourly rate only means something once you know what it includes. Published partner guidance puts freelancers at about $50 to $150 an hour and onshore certified partners at about $100 to $250.

01

Freelancer

Pays for the individual. You manage the work, quality and continuity yourself.

02

Agency or partner

Usually includes delivery management, quality assurance and access to other specialists when needed.

03

Staff augmentation

Named developers work in your team under your direction, typically at a monthly rate, with the provider handling employment, replacement and administration.

What to check before hiring

  1. Certifications: check them on Salesforce's credential verification, and ask which clouds the developer has delivered in.
  2. Time-zone overlap: agree the hours the developer will be available to your team.
  3. Replacement terms: how quickly a replacement is provided if someone leaves, and at whose cost.
  4. IP and confidentiality: make sure the contract assigns the work to you and covers access to your data.
  5. Utilisation: confirm whether you are paying for full-time dedicated hours or a share of someone's time.

How these numbers were compiled

Developer rates come from a cost-to-hire guide by Second Talent, a hiring platform, dated 24 Sept 2026. The source builds its India figures by scaling its US bands with a compensation ratio, and says itself that a single India rate means very little on its own.

Freelancer and partner guidelines come from Codleo, a Salesforce partner, and senior consultant and architect rates from Savvycom, a software vendor. None of the sources states a full method.
